Big Chap – The Victorian Mascot of Bishopsgate Police Station

This magnificent beast (the cat, not the man) is ‘Big chap’ who was the feline mascot of Bishopsgate Police Station back in the 1880s.

Living up to his name he weighed an impressive 21lbs 7oz, and if he was kept for keeping the rat population under control he certainly looked like he did a good job!

I’m not sure of the original source of this image, it seems to have been shared all over various forums and on various websites without there being an official source, so if you know please let me know so I can add the source info…
